LO5 - Reflection

Strengths
Stevlar, (a rep. of Sheffield Live!), was pleased with our pitch. He congratulated us, saying our skills in presenting were clear and precise.

When asked about our pitch we answered firmly and to the point, whilst still elaborating on some sections and ideas. He particularly liked Quizzicle and felt that it that it showed the most potential as our final audio-product. Though similar products were compared overall he was please with the product and we were urged to pick this as our chosen podcast show to be created.

Weaknesses (Areas of improvement)
Stevlar described our first idea, The Daily Life of a UTC Student, as a “...marketing campaign...” for the college and lacked subtlety.

To improve upon this the marketing of the product for future reference should focus on the unique appeal and how it benefits the community.

Stevlar also felt that the time frame of 20 minutes was unrealistic and needed to be longer. If adverts were used to fill the gap they would drag on and general does not follow standard radio conventions.

To improve this, the show would need to be extended to around 30 minutes instead. This would mean that we would be able to feature more topics that can be covered in the show and generally produce more relevant content.
ReflectionQuizzicle was the favoured choice idea by Stevlar, who gave constructive criticism along with his favourable opinions, as well making comparison to other products and showed a keen interest in both our audio-product ideas. The game show style is something he said himself he had worked with and demonstrated knowledge within the area. He liked the inclusion of local guests that had meaning within the community and our future ambitions for the show's development, which he did not dismiss as unrealistic - simply challenging to sometimes achieve. He did express worry with the number of people appearing on the show as this can cause issues with microphones, but we were able to resolve this by reducing the number of contestants who would be taking part.

Stevlar did find problems within The Daily Life of a UTC Student, but did not criticise it any further and did not dismiss the idea completely. Overall both products were well received by the Sheffield Live! representative, but did not hold their quality to the same standard.
