LO5 - Legal and Ethical, Copyright Permission and PRS License

Legal & Ethical
All our content shall be checked against Ofcom regulations so that no profanity or any other offensive content is featured pre-release.

Both our ideas for audio products are podcasts, meaning they are pre-recorded so if any profanity or any other offensive content is used we can edit that out either by cutting it completely out or putting a beep. Though we would check beforehand with the cast that they make sure not to use any of the above legal issues in pre-production meetings held here at UTC Sheffield or Sheffield Live!

Also because it is a podcast time the time of broadcast is not necessarily an issue. The content would be suitable for all ages ,(though not necessarily to everybody's liking due to the subject of broadcast), so there would be no need to release it at a certain time, after the watershed for example.

The intended target audience for The Daily Life of a UTC Student falls under the teenage category in terms of age range; this would mean that there would be a huge range in what is suitable and not suitable to the audience though we would make sure since this is also a informative podcast that we would keep the podcast suitable towards the younger half.

For Quizzicle our audience is intended to be a lot older so we would cater towards the older half of the audience rather than the younger; this the older half would take up the majority of the audience.

Copyright
Copyright is the exclusive and assignable legal right, given to the originator for a fixed number of years, to print, publish, perform, film, or record literary, artistic, or musical material.

For our ideas other than the music used (which is free) all content is created by us therefore does not need permission for use or created with granted permission.

The Daily Life of a UTC Student will be created within the UTC by us (students of UTC) therefore we do not need permission to us the material here.

Quizzicle's material such as music is free music and is not copyrighted. Also since this is an Radio no visual representation will be used but audio if necessary may be used from films etc if needed for a question. In this case we would need to seek permission to use that material since it would be copyrighted.

PRS License
A PRS is required for Quizzicle to air snippets of these pieces of music to supply as answers; if Quizzicle cannot get copyright permission to air certain songs/pieces of music, then an suitable alternative song/pieces of music will be used or the question relating to it will be cut.

Reoccurring pieces of music – Such as the ident, jingle and sound effects – are free to avoid paying royalties each time it is used.
