LO3 - Additional Information for Treatment

In today’s lesson I will be completing the additional information as part of my treatment

Content - Quizzicle is a radio quiz/game panel show. It will start with an introduction to the show and the contestants. There will be two teams with three members on each team. Throughout the show the teams will compete to win fun quizzes and games (which can connect to each other e.g. a game is the basis for a series of mini-quizzes or vise versa) suited for radio.

The quizzes will be made of fun, obscure questions about unusual facts, general knowledge, and current affairs.

The games will be humourous and create responses from the contestants and presenters.
GAMES TO BE LISTED...

Questions & etc. - Quiz questions are in the style of pub quiz questions. Presenter gives website link and recommends listeners to view other subjects there.

Styles of music used - All songs and pieces of music are used for quizzes and games, so they only small snippets are played instead of the full songs. All songs will be popular and well recognised songs, no obscure ones.

Advertising - Barnsley College - Relates to theme of educational benefits.

08/12/14
I have completed the task given above.
I need to prepare for radio concept presentation to support my idea.

How is it different - Comedy panel quiz for the radio. The style is common as a T.V. show but rare for radio today. It relies on jokes and funny statements instead of visual humour, and due to this the structure might have to be altered to convert it from a standard T.V. structure to suit it for radio .

Age/Gender - 15 to 20 year olds. Appeals to both genders, allowing for larger community audience.

Hammocked - Quizzicle will be hammocked between Sheffield Live! Jukebox and Sounzaboutright. Sheffield Live! Jukebox is a show that focuses on playing music, making it easy listening before the quiz show, which doesn't play as much music but still plays snippets of popular songs.  Sounzaboutright shares a similar style to Quizzicle as it plays music and has conversations in between on different subjects, usually relating what's in the news.

How does it provide a gap in the market - The main focus is comedy and entertainment and doesn't require interviews with celebrity guests, as the contestants just have to be people who provide fun-reactions instead of people who are known publicly. Many radio shows rely on celebrities to interview or perform, but this show does not feature live performances or interviews (except for pieces of conversation and banta between guests and presenters). This radio show relies on the interesting items, such as different styled games and quizzes, that the contestants and audience will enjoy.

Competitors.

My competitor might be Gemma Cairney's radio show, as both shows would be aired at the same time and features chat and music.

Audience & Demographic: The audience is clearly specified as to age and interests though there is no inclusion of a demographic figure (for example ABC1)

Client's Attention: To grab the clients attention more details should be included on what the games feature and how the show runs.

Merit

Self Reflection

I need to clarify what will feature in the show (Which games? What type of quizzes?) and how it will run smoothly through the show. Must add more details about show features and who this show is aimed at and why it would appeal to them.

Radio Product Treatment to complete and add more detail/information.

Section 1

Name/title of program:
Quizzicle.

The definition of the word quizzical is indicating mild or amused puzzlement, which the show will hopefully create for contestants and listeners through it’s question. The title also works well as it features the word “Quiz”, so newcomers will immediately be able to assume that this audio product is a quiz show.

Length of show (Maximum 60 minutes):
The duration of the show will be 25 minutes, or 30 if necessary to include extra content. This feels like a suitable length of time to host all quizzes and games needed to create an interesting and fun show.

First 5 minutes – Introduction of the host, show and contestants. First mini-quiz.
Next 15 minutes – The main game of the show and mini games/quizzes.
Last 5 minutes – Final quiz. Announcement of winning team.

Genre or type of programme:

Quizzicle is a comedy quiz/game show. The panels will compete in games and quizzes of a comical nature, which will result in comical responses from contestants and the host, creating a fun and humourous show for those taking part and the listening audience.

Brief description/synopsis:
A comedy panel show with games and quizzes played between two teams of three.

Production method:
The production method will be that the show is recorded in advance and edited before it is aired, removing any extra content that causes the show to overrun it planned airing time space.

By not choosing to perform it live also makes it easier for the contestants who won’t be professional podcast performers and might not be aware or radio conventions. It allows for us to avoid dead air, as it can be removed in editing, and avoid any issues with Ofcom by removing any crude content (swearing or slander) that might be said by contestant(s).

Section 2

Time of day:
4:00 pm
I fell this is a suitable time for members or our audience who have finished school/college and want to listen to it. Any possible crude content is removed before being aired so it doesn’t need to be aired after the watershed.

Days of the week:
Thursday
By airing the show on a Thursday it avoids strong competition of other comical podcasts/radio shows, often aired over the weekend. People will want to listen to it after completing a day at school/college so it will be aired on a weekday towards the end of the school week.

Intended age of audience:
The target age-range will be 15 -20 year olds.
The contestants (may) be of this age so they will relate to them as associate with their sense of humour.  The show talks about trending subjects that they will be likely to know or will want to know about.

Other target details:
Quizzicle will appeal to those who enjoy knowing about/mocking current trends along with added nostalgic factors. Quizzicle has no targeted gender as the shows is not aimed towards one specific gender, allowing for a larger target audience. Teams will be made up of boys and girls.

Section 3

Show Presenters/Hosts:
Quizzicle has only one, regular host. Host presents in a comical, friendly and informal style. Host must be able to give comical/witty responses to what happens in the show and be able to ask the questions and give game instruction clearly and understandably.

There will be a total of six contestants – Different contestants each week, though may have some recurring appearances from some. Contestants preferably aged around 15 – 25 years old. Must have a mix of genders, not just an all male/ all female show.

Possible hosts:
-       Callam Fellows
-       Matt Poole
-       Oliver Hartley

Estimated prices for some resources required
(Some resources already in possession, so estimated price is unnecessary):

Buzzers (For team captains to use if they want to answer question) - £13.00

*Microphone (So all voices are clear and picked up by recorder clearly)  - £40.00

Advert charge costs - £107.00 per episode

Startup Costs become expensive from the prices of new and best quality equipment, with no sponsors or advertisers yet to help pay for these costs. In the long run, this will be worth it as the money made from the show, advertisers, and sponsors will pay these costs off.

Content of the show:
-Opening Mini-Quiz
-One Main Game
-Mini-Games
-Mini-Quizzes
-Final Quiz

Games and quizzes often relate to popular news stories and trends, along with unusual pieces of information.

Music used:
All songs and music used will be well-recognised/popular for the purpose of quiz questions. No obscure pieces will be played or involved as it makes quizzes and games too challenging. Trending music may be used for news question, along with nostalgic pieces that should also relate to games and questions.

A PRS is required for Quizzicle to air snippets of these pieces of music to supply as answers; if Quizzicle cannot get copyright permission to air certain songs/pieces of music, then an suitable alternative song/pieces of music will be used or the question relating to it will be cut

Reoccurring pieces of music – Such as the ident, jingle and sound effects – are free to avoid paying royalties each time it is used.

 Advertises:

Barnsley College might make a suitable advertises as the shows quizzes relate to an idea of education.

LO2 - Pitching Preperation - Printed Documentation

It is important to have printed documentation when pitching an idea to a prospective client because it…

- Shows evidence of amount of preparation put into work/pitch.
- Supports evidence and ideas.
-  Clarifies your ideas, as they may not be clear without the documentation.
- Allows for iteration with client.
- Allows client to take ideas away with them.
- Helps with organisation.

AUDIENCE PROFILE:

At the moment I am currently considering the UTC since I share an high interest in Media and all that revolves around it. I also like technology and that specifically of computers, I have skills in a range of software and like to create videos in my spare time these include short films and other media related content. I love editing them and adding effects and consider it a future career working for a company like the BBC. In my spare time I also like to talk to my friends over the internet but nothing beats meeting them in person and going to parties especially those that feature my favorite type of music Dub-step and Techno. I like to drink Coke and eat a Subway. Though I maintain a healthy diet.

LO2 - Summary Report

Summary report

Name(s)

*Quizziness - Quiz show
Slogan - "Let's Get Quizzical!"
Ident/Jingle - "Let's Get Quizzical!"to the tune of "Let's Get Physical" by Olivia Newton-John

Purpose

The purpose of this show is to educate with interesting and unusual facts and information brought up through quiz questions. However, it's main purpose is to entertain, with comical results from the presenter and guests and what is said and what happens during quizzes and games.

Content

The show will be presented by myself. I will speak to the guests with a comical, friendly and relaxed tone, and the guests will respond in the same sort of informal style. My job is to ask questions, keep score and explain the game rules, whilst making jokes and join in with the fun throughout the podcast.

Sound effects (Jingles) will be used throughout, such as the team's buzzers and audio responses to games. Snippets of songs and music will sometimes be used as music game answers.

Quizzes and games will be played throughout. These quizzes/games will be humourous and entertaining to play and watch, but they must be appropriate and work for the radio (so don't rely on visuals).

Aired Thursdays at 4:00pm?
Aired weekly over a period of two months, (During summer holiday. June and July OR July and August. Depends on which is more convenient, compared to the activities of competitors.), per year.
